What is Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema is a condition where the accumulation of excessive amounts of protein-rich fluid in the tissue results in swelling of one or more regions of the body. Lymphoedema usually affects the limb(s) although it may also involve the trunk, breast, head, neck or genital area. There are many reasons why somebody may experience lymphoedema / oedema. These can include surgery, radiation, trauma, infections and cellulitis, inflammation, venous disease and genetic or lifestyle factors.

Allied Health Cancer Care
Western Lymphatics provides physiotherapy and occupational therapy allied health services. Our aim is to meet the needs of cancer patients, carers and individuals to improve quality of life. Physiotherapists – help you improve mobility, balance, functional ability and independence by using hands-on treatments and exercise therapy. We also use targeted musculoskeletal treatments to assist in decreasing pain, improving joint range of motion and improving physical function. Occupational therapists – assist you to maintain independence with everyday tasks. This may include coping skills, mood and stress management strategies, energy conservation and addressing environmental barriers to returning to work or maintaining safety and independence around the home.
